Sydney went from "what's pickleball" to "I'm in a league" in about eighteen months. There are now courts all over the city, from rooftops in the CBD to warehouses in the west and free council courts in the suburbs. The bad news: half your mates are still turning up with the same three balls they bought at Christmas.
This is our guide to the best places to play pickleball in Sydney, with the address, courts, facilities, what's on and a map for each venue. We last checked these details in October 2026. Venues change hours, sessions and prices often, so check the booking page before you head out.

How to find a game if you don't have a crew
Most dedicated venues run open play sessions where you turn up, put your paddle in the queue and get rotated in. It's the fastest way to meet people at your level. Clubs affiliated with Pickleball NSW also run come-and-try sessions for complete beginners, and plenty of venues run ladies-only, social and beginner nights.
For free council courts, local Facebook groups and scheduling apps are where regulars organise games. Ask around at the court. Pickleball people are aggressively friendly.
Indoor or outdoor in Sydney?
Sydney has good options for both. Outdoor courts are cheaper and more plentiful, and the weather is kind most of the year. Indoor courts save you in summer storms, on 38-degree afternoons and in the wet weeks of autumn.
The court changes which ball you want. Indoor balls are softer with bigger holes. Outdoor balls are harder with smaller holes so they cope with wind, but they crack faster on rough concrete. If you play both, a hybrid ball keeps it simple. Our guide to indoor vs outdoor pickleball balls explains it properly.
What to bring
- A paddle (most venues hire them)
- Court shoes with good lateral support, not runners
- Water and a hat for outdoor courts
- Balls that actually bounce
That last one matters more than people think. Outdoor balls usually last around ten games before they start to crack. More in how long pickleballs actually last.

Don't be the one with the cracked ball
